Ford has engineered the 2017 Ford Super Duty to be the toughest, hardest working, most capable heavy-duty pickup ever built. They began by slashing weight with an all-new high-strength, military-grade, and aluminum alloy body. Then reinvested some of that weight savings where it counts the most in a work truck - stronger axles, beefier steering and chassis components, and an all-new fully boxed frame built of over 95 percent high-strength steel. The result is a pickup that's stronger than ever before, yet up to 350 pounds lighter, delivering class-leading* payload and towing capability.
The 2017 Super Duty® is the only truck in its class* with a high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body. Aluminum alloy is substantially lighter than the previous body, yet it's remarkably strong. It's also more dent-and-ding resistant and not subject to red rust corrosion. The lighter aluminum alloy body made it possible to take some of the weight savings and reinvest it where it matters the most, especially in the frame that's the foundation of a truck's strength and toughness.
The all-new fully boxed frame is built of over 95 percent high-strength steel with up to ten crossmembers. It's 24 times stiffer than the previous frame. The frame is designed to minimize flexing and twisting while maximizing strength and torsional rigidity - and helps Super Duty achieve the highest payload and tow ratings in its class.*
Like the all-new fully boxed high-strength steel frame, the axles are stronger than before. That means your Super Duty® can bear more weight and get more done, whether you're operating an upfit like a snowplow, or hauling big payloads that concentrate more weight on the rear axles. The axles are also designed to handle the 925 lbs. ft. of torque of the available 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel. More than ever, our Super Duty is up to the task of taking on the toughest jobs in the most demanding industries.
2017 Super Duty® is engineered with stronger-than-ever frame and axles for superior load-carrying capability. The suspension and steering components are also stronger, to deliver the responsiveness and control you need while hauling or towing huge loads on the road or at the job site. And the springs are specifically designed to work with the new frame and take advantage of the lighter aluminum alloy body.
We've made the components of the 4-wheel anti-lock brakes in the F-450 model the largest in its class* - and for two important reasons. You want them to provide the sure stopping power you expect when you're out on the job hauling tons of whatever it is that's riding along with you behind the cab. And you want them to last, because having to replace brakes too often can be a real drag on your bottom line.
A truck as revolutionary in strength and durability as the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty® isn't born overnight. And it doesn't come along very often. We committed this latest generation of the Super Duty to over 12 million miles of testing, under conditions simulated and real. We also put prototype models in the hands of people like you, working in some of the most demanding industries. Our goal: Build a line of heavy-duty pick-up trucks with extraordinary performance and capability never before heard of - that is, until now.
We evaluated the new Super Duty® on computers and dynamometers in the lab, then tested it at the proving grounds and on public roads and highways at temperatures from -20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. We conducted thermal shocks that swung ambient temperature 250 degrees Fahrenheit in under two minutes, as well as powertrain tests that replicated going up a six-degree grade over 500 miles. We subjected Super Duty to four-post frame twists, gravel, dust, water, salt brine, mud baths and even intentionally tested with worn or broken parts. We're talking here about extreme conditions that often went far beyond what you would likely encounter on your toughest of jobs.
2017 Super Duty® now comes with standard AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) and Trailer Sway Control on dual-rear-wheel as well as single-rear-wheel models. Both systems use gyroscopic sensors and apply a combination of reduced engine power and selective wheel braking to help maintain the stability of the vehicle and the trailer in tow.
The all-new Super Duty® has a conventional towing capacity of 21,000 pounds - greater than ever before and higher than any other heavy-duty pickup.* That's because Super Duty features a stronger, sturdier, fully boxed frame made of over 95 percent high-strength steel; heftier axle, suspension and driveline components; plus a factory-installed weight-carrying hitch built into the frame.
Need to tow loads requiring a 5th-wheel or gooseneck hitch? Go beyond what ordinary pickups can pull with the all-new Super Duty® and its best-in-class* tow ratings up to 27,500 lbs. (5th wheel) and 32,500 lbs. (gooseneck). A 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Hitch Prep Package, with 6-3/4-ft. or 8-ft. pickup box, can set you up for this exceptional towing capability. Included are a factory-installed 5th-wheel and gooseneck substructure attached to the frame (factory-installed on 4x4 model only); flat cargo load bed; patented system covered by the Ford limited warranty (see your dealer for details); compatible with 5th-wheel hitch kits and gooseneck hitch kits offered through the factory and Ford Custom Accessories.
We increased the payload of the 2017 Super Duty® by reducing body weight by up 350 lbs. and making the frame 24 times stiffer. The 7,630-lb. maximum payload rating is not only higher than ever, it's also the best in its class.* And that's not all. New features transform the pickup bed workspace that carries all that payload: (1) class-exclusive* available BoxLink™ to secure a variety of available accessories; (2) available center high-mount stop lamp camera; (3) available LED box lights; (4) class-exclusive* available remote tailgate release and power-locking tailgate; and (5) class-exclusive* available tailgate step.
The all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty® boasts best-in-class* status in maximum payload plus conventional and 5th-wheel/gooseneck trailing towing. But that's not all. Load up your pickup box to the max while pulling a large trailer - and haul it all better than any other heavy-duty pickup on the road with the best-in-class* Super Duty 41,800-lb. gross combination weight rating (GCWR).
A huge difficulty facing drivers while maneuvering larger trailers can be summed up in one word. Visibility. Enter the new available class-exclusive* Trailer Reverse Guidance.** With cameras in the sideview mirrors, visual guides are displayed in the center dash screen. You get an enhanced rear view of where the trailer is going, with the guidelines changing with the movements of the steering wheel. The camera view is digitally expanded on the side where the trailer is going, showing the direction of both the truck and the trailer. Also available is a customer-placed camera option you can mount at the rear of the trailer. Now, one difficult task on the job isn't nearly so difficult anymore.
Bringing a floodlight to keep working after the sun has turned in? Maybe an accessory that needs a plug? A cordless power tool or battery in need of recharging? The available class-exclusive* modified sine 110-volt/400-watt (300 watts when driving) conventional AC plug-in outlet can power what you need to get things done.
No longer do you have to get out of the cab to check if the trailer's tires are properly inflated. Because that information is now available inside the comfort of the cab. The class-exclusive* Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with in-dash display covers the tires of the trailer as well as the truck.**
2017 Super Duty® has larger fuel tanks. Now factor in the higher-than-ever fuel economy of both the 6.2L gas V8 and the Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8. Not having to stop to fill up as often means more productivity on the job.
The available B20-capable 6.7L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8 is the winner in diesel performance with its best-in-class* horsepower and torque ratings - 440 horsepower and 925 lb.-ft. of torque. The Power Stroke owes much of its performance bragging rights to strong design features, including its unique inverse-flow configuration: The turbocharger is located between the cylinder heads and the top of the block. And the exhaust manifold is positioned inboard and close to the turbocharger - close proximity means faster air displacement and more power. Another notable feature is the compacted graphite iron engine block that is stronger yet lighter than cast iron.
You'd think that having the top-performing engine under the hood of your pickup would come at the cost of lower fuel economy. Happily, conventional thinking goes out the window with the Super Duty®Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8. You have not only unbeatable horsepower and torque, but also fuel economy that's unsurpassed.
The 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel incorporates a Smart Exhaust Brake function. When activated with a switch on the instrument panel, the engine brake restricts the turbocharger's exhaust flow to generate back pressure and slow the vehicle. The main benefit is greater control while traveling downhill, regardless of vehicle load or road grade. Also, because the engine brake helps minimize having to apply pedal pressure, brake fade and lining wear are reduced, lowering the cost of maintenance. Three settings are available: On, Off, and Auto. The Auto setting modulates engine braking as needed to help maintain the speed you want based on accelerator and brake pedal use.
Torque rules when pulling big loads. And no other gas-powered full-size pickup can match the 430 lb.-ft. of torque of the Super Duty® 6.2L flex-fuel V8.* Improved tuning and camshaft configurations increase peak torque at lower rpm, enabling the 6.2L to generate higher torque throughout the midrange and operate more efficiently at lower speeds. Power delivery is more responsive. And shifting is more seamless with the new Ford TorqShift® G 6-speed transmission in the F-250. And more good news: For the first time, the optional Live-Drive Power Takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode is available with the 6.2L engine (F-350 models). Now you can have PTO capability in a Super Duty with either diesel or gas power.
Compressed natural gas (CNG) and propane are alternative fuels to unleaded gasoline with the CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package* available on Super Duty® powered by the 6.2L gas V8. What's more, the CNG/Propane Package with the addition of the necessary upfits for bi-fuel capability enables the 6.2L V8 to run on either liquefied propane gas or unleaded gas.
Super Duty® F-250 with 6.2L gas V8 boasting best-in-class torque* is teamed with the new Ford TorqShift G SelectShift 6-speed automatic. Experience higher torque at lower rpm with faster power delivery, quicker and more seamless shifting up and down the gearbox, plus higher fuel economy. Also higher is the fluid change interval at 150,000 miles. Designed into the transmission are SelectShift and Tow/Haul features. SelectShift® has Progressive Range Select, limiting the range of gears to lock out overdrive, plus Full Manual control. Tow/Haul mode selects the gear that minimizes gear hunting on uphills. On a downhill, it keeps the vehicle from upshifting and gaining speed, reducing reliance on brake pressure.
The Ford TorqShift SelectShift 6-speed automatic* delivers high-torque performance and dependability. Big, strong gears easily handle the heavy torque demands of the turbo diesel and gas engines. Fewer rpm are required because the torque converter locks up at lower speeds. And designed into the transmission are SelectShift and Tow/Haul features. SelectShift has two modes: Progressive Range Select that limits the range of gears to lock out overdrive, plus Full Manual control. Tow/Haul selects the gear that minimizes gear hunting on uphills. On a downhill, it keeps the vehicle from upshifting and gaining speed, reducing reliance on brake pressure to slow down.
The available class-exclusive* Live-Drive Power Takeoff (PTO) Provision with Mobile Mode** lets you power aftermarket accessories. And now, PTO provision is available with either gas or diesel power. The PTO provision is integrated into the TorqShift® transmission, reducing the time needed for seasonal upfit changes. An output gear connects directly to the engine crankshaft to power your PTO anytime the engine is running, whether the truck is in motion or stopped. Another feature is "split-shaft" capability (diesel only) that generates greater power by providing a more direct output shaft to the transmission. Multiple accessories can be operated at the same time when the truck is stopped.
New optional cameras,* available on all trim levels, enhance visibility for on-site tasks, including the often tough job of backing up a trailer. (1) Available tailgate camera. (2) Available high-definition 180/360-degree cameras enable you to see all sides of the truck. (3) Available class-exclusive** Trailer Reverse Guidance displays visual guides along both sides for an enhanced view of where the trailer is going. (4) Available customer-placed rear trailer camera provides a view that wouldn't otherwise be possible from the driver's seat. (5) Available center high-mount stop lamp camera enhances the view of the pickup bed, helpful when hooking up to a 5th-wheel or gooseneck hitch.
The class-exclusive* new Adaptive Steering System adjusts the steering ratio in response to vehicle speed. It adapts automatically to the driving situation, whether you're doing a low-speed maneuver like parking or backing up a trailer, or traveling at cruising speed on the highway. At lower speeds, the steering ratio increases, requiring fewer turns of the steering wheel - and less steering effort. At higher speeds, the steering ratio gradually decreases, effecting a steering feel that is firmer and more controlled.
Available BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow is now offered on the new Super Duty® and is a class-exclusive* feature. BLIS® signals you in the outside mirror when a vehicle is detected in a blind spot - and provides coverage for the truck you're driving as well as the trailer you're towing. The cross-traffic alert feature can detect a vehicle passing behind when you're slowly backing out of a driveway or parking place.
Available factory-installed auxiliary upfitter switches now total six (up from four). The system includes two 40-amp switches (ignition on or off) plus four 25-amp switches (ignition on). What's more, the switches with fuses and associated relays are integrated into the new overhead console/storage compartment. Upfitter switches are a convenient way to connect a variety of aftermarket accessories (such as a winch, lights, strobes, 2-way radio) to the vehicle's electrical system. They're factory-installed, so there's no need to cut into the truck's electrical system when installing accessories.
Super Duty® now offers two reassuring technologies: (1) Available Lane Departure Warning vibrates the steering wheel when you drift too close to a lane marker.* (2) Available Adaptive Cruise Control slows you down as traffic ahead slows, then resumes the preset speed when traffic picks back up. The Collision Warning/Brake Support feature precharges the brakes for full responsiveness if you don't react in time. It's integrated into the trailer brake controller for added security when you're towing a heavy load.
It's a huge advantage that quad dual-beam halogen headlamps are a class-exclusive* standard feature on the 2017 Super Duty®. The upper and lower headlamps provide both low- and high-beam outputs, with the combined four low beams producing more light output than the high beams on previous Super Duty models. And the technology doesn't stop here. Super Duty goes even further by offering optional quad-beam LED headlamps/taillamps with their intense brightness, efficiency and durability.
With SYNC 3, you can enjoy all of the great SYNC features, plus our next generation of voice-activated technology.
You'll appreciate the convenience of Super Duty® interior design when you need to carry cargo and other items inside the cab. Both the SuperCab and Crew Cab models have a class-exclusive* rear flat load floor that helps make it easy to load large cargo. The SuperCab features rear hinged doors that open 170 degrees for easy loading. And the 4-door Crew Cab offers a new available class-exclusive* folding lockable under-seat box (shown) for storing loose items or things you'd want to keep concealed and secure.
